I said I would and then I did!
As my older watchers would know, I was into the Invader Zim fandom when I first came to deviantART. I ended up "phasing out" of it when I got into my comics, but I was apart of that fandom for a good 5+ years. IZ was what got me into creating alien worlds; previously I had created creatures with very vague "planets" but IZ helped solidify all that for me. Ambivians were created specifically for my fanfiction! So it all still means a lot to me, even if I don't dabble in it anymore.
Garin was also originally a fan character, a hybrid between an Irken and an Ambivian. He was, not unlike any other unoriginal silly fan, also the result of self-insertxCanon character romance. So not only was he a hybrid of these two species, but he was also the child of princess Nelthilta and Almighty Tallest Red! Though he was a product of "artificial creation" or "DNA cloning" as I put it (which, you know, totally not the correct way to put it but tell teen me that). He couldn't really speak and was horribly goofy. His favorite things to do were stuffing his face with cheese puffs and running into glass doors. He had a "mode" that constantly forced him to go back and forth between a sentient being and acting like a dog. I don't know why. I don't question those times.
As ridiculous as he was, he was my favorite character for a long time. Seeing his old version next to his new you can see a lot of influences he had on the new design, including features for my own species! Including ALL THE COLORS!
Current Garin is also going through an awkward phase... I'm trying to tweak his design a little bit/how I draw him so he's kinda in-between designs now. Though I think I finally picked a new coloration for his white tail that I'm digging! But he's also still pretty stupid looking. But so are all my character. I ACCEPT THIS FATE.
Who all remembers Irkivian Garin? Jeez, thems some good times! I don't think I've drawn him since 2008! Dat CRAZY. In retrospect I should have drawn them both eating cheesepuffs together. Oh well. Guess I'll save that for another time.... 8)

Wow, your style has really evolved. I can definitely see the IZ influence though.
